Description

Experiments in Hand-Mulled Watercolor and Mixed Media
. Discover the excitement of working with a personalized palette of hand-crafted watercolor paint.

All levels welcome.

The first half of the workshop will focus on grinding and mulling pigments into paint as we consider how materials shape our creative perspective. The unique properties of handmade water paints will be explored in the second half of the workshop through guided instruction incorporating drawing and some mixed media. Through structured exercises and open-ended experimentation, participants will deepen their understanding of watercolor as an expressive medium.

This workshop is ideal for artists and makers who want to connect more intimately with their materials, expand their technical understanding of water media, and cultivate a studio practice rooted in curiosity.

All Materials for making paint will be provided, along with paper, collage supplies, and watercolor brushes. There will be shared paint-making tools, so if you have your own tools, watercolor sketchbook, and mixed-media supplies, like decorative papers, markers, pen, pastels, etc that you love working with, you are encouraged to bring them.

The following paint-mulling tools are recommended but optional:

• A small mortar and pestle set (granite or marble preferred)
• Small tempered glass plate
• Glass paint muller

• Stainless steel palette knife
• Containers to keep paint in, like old watercolor pans, bottle caps, shells, small bottles with lids, lip balm containers, etc.

If you need some basic tools, here are some links from the instructor for a beginner paint mixing kit $24.00: https://a.co/d/06MN2NL4 and this one for $29.00: https://a.co/d/08LyQOF8
