The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Description
Perfect your Jollof, the rice-and-spice classic, with popular food writer and Community Kitchen favourite Lerato Umah-Shaylor. In this class, Lerato will demo her take on this most celebrated of West African dishes and share three other amazing recipes from her new cookbook, Africana.
Under her expert guidance, you will work in pairs to prepare:
- Plantain Prawn or Mushroom Cakes
- Tomato & date jam
- Senegalese Chicken or Aubergine Yassa
- Smoky Jollof Rice with spice-roasted plantains
That’s two snacks and two mains. Enough to give you a taste of West Africa’s delicious cuisine – but sure to leave you wanting to return for more!
What previous participants said: “"Liked the engaging, hands-on with the chef. Good way to spend an afternoon – good food, good company." "Built up my confidence! Will treat my family to a North African meal.”
