Short answer: yes!
A three-hour, body-based journey into presence, connection and laughter through the art of clown.
Bring yourself, clothes you can move in, water and a snack. Your Clown Mother will provide the rest.
All levels. No experience necessary.
What you will get:
- a somatic (body-based) entry into feeling more present, alive, and ready onstage
- individual and small-group, in-the-moment coaching to help you become more responsive to what is happening around you.
- lots of lots of chances to PLAY, to return to a childlike wonder
- a more direct line to YOU and what makes you lovable to watch (spoiler alert, you don't have to DO anything to achieve this)
- techniques to prevent “breaking” or “corpsing” (the commitment to stay in what you're doing and go deeper when your audience is laughing)
- the joy of being a laughing audience member
What students are saying:
“Anne’s teaching gives me access to a grounded, primal, less judgmental version of myself. I’ve learned the importance of simplicity, failure, connection with the audience, and connection with myself in a way that’s changed my experience of performing.”
“Anne will push you out of your comfort zone, and will also make you feel completely comfortable doing so. I'd highly recommend.”
“Anne was able to quickly create a psychologically safe space in which she also gave direct, in-the-moment feedback that I could implement in real time. Not a single moment of the class was wasted and I felt very comfortable taking risks.”
A note about the venue:
Unfortunately, Portland Dance Studio does NOT have step-free access and is therefore not ADA accessible. If you have further access questions, including accommodation requests, please reach out to team@annezander.com.
Clown Mother (Anne Zander - she/her) is a queer, neurodivergent mother, clown, character creator and a "completely ridiculous... completely vulnerable" international touring artist whose two solo shows - "MOTHER" and "JUICEBOX" - have brought audiences to laughter and tears from coast to coast (BroadwayWorld). She will hold you in her (figurative) mother's embrace and then gently push you out of the nest.
