Description

From Academy to College: The Legacy of Girls’ Education in New Haven invites visitors to explore the rich history of women’s learning in the Elm City through the remarkable collections of the Whitney Library. In collaboration with Albertus Magnus College, this exhibition traces the evolution of girls’ education from early academies to collegiate achievement. Featuring materials from the West End Institute, St. Mary’s School, and the Dana Collection scrapbooks of girls’ schools, the program is anchored by extensive holdings from Albertus Magnus. Through photographs, documents, and personal histories, the exhibit illuminates the institutions and individuals who shaped generations of students and helped define educational opportunity for women in New Haven.
