Description
Artificial Intelligence, in some form or another, has been around since the 1950's. A couple of years ago when ChatGPT suddenly became popular, a new interest in Al took over seemingly every part of our daily life. Everywhere you look you see Al added to just about everything, and everyone seems to be offering their opinion on what the next step for Al should be. This talk will explore a slight variation of this, namely, who is going to benefit when Al becomes an unavoidable component of life? When it comes down to civic life, social media, or even day-to-day life inside the library, it is worth looking at who are the winners and who are the losers. Like Sci Fi great William Gibson told us, "The future is already here-it's just not evenly distributed". Registration required.
Tim Ribaric is a PhD Candidate and a librarian at Brock University. He has taught hundreds of people how to use Al in computer programming and has published various pieces calling for careful examinations of how we use technology and Al.
