Description
Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The second of a two-part feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical. For two holiday seasons Wicked, the record-shattering, Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon will become a gravity-defying cinematic sensation. The feature-film adaptations of the untold story of the Witches of Oz is directed by electrifying filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, this year's In the Heights). Wicked, based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, is adapted for the screen by the stage production's book writer Winne Holzman and by legendary Academy Award® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.
Wicked will be brought to the screen by visionary director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) and producer Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies). The screenplay is by Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life), who also wrote the book for the three-time Tony-winning stage musical, based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire. Music and lyrics are by three-time Oscar®-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin). Wicked is produced on Broadway by Platt, Universal Stage Productions, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.
