Description

Kansas City was called a wide-open town—but who was it truly open for?

Join Elevated Adventures Kansas City Cannabis Tours, in collaboration with Just One Day Travel Tours, for the founding-guest pilot of Wide Open KC: Jazz, Power & Cannabis History.

This guided streetcar and walking experience connects Kansas City stories that are often told separately: political influence, nightlife, jazz innovation, Black journalism, cannabis culture, and the changing meaning of “legal.” Historical visuals help bring vanished clubs, overlooked people, and familiar downtown locations back into view.

What you will explore

Union Station history, the 1933 massacre, and the difference between documented history and local legend

Tom Pendergast's political “Power House” and Kansas City's wide-open reputation

The Reno Club, Count Basie, Lester Young, radio station W9XBY, and music that traveled farther than Black Kansas Citians were allowed to

The role of The Kansas City Call in recording Black life, business, culture, politics, and music

Cannabis history—from medicine and jazz-era culture to criminalization, enforcement, and today's legal market

This is not a traditional lecture and it is not a cannabis consumption event. It is an honest, grown-and-curious Kansas City experience built around stories hiding in plain sight.

Founding-guest experience

This is the first public run of Wide Open KC. Founding guests receive the complete guided experience at a special pilot price and will be invited to share brief, optional feedback afterward. That insight will help shape future public and private-group versions of the tour.

Before you arrive

Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Dress for the weather and bring water as needed.

Allow extra time for parking and check-in.

This experience uses public sidewalks and the KC Streetcar.

Contact us before booking with specific mobility or accessibility questions so we can discuss the current route.

Cannabis policy

Cannabis history and culture are discussed, but cannabis products and public cannabis consumption are not included or permitted during this experience. Smoking and vaping are prohibited aboard KC Streetcar vehicles and at streetcar stops.

Parking

Parking is not included in the ticket price. Current Union Station rates are subject to change, particularly during major events:

West Yards Parking Garage: 30 minutes free; $7 for up to 4 hours; $16 for 4–8 hours. For a two-hour tour, this is currently the best-value parking option close to the meeting area.

South Plaza and Triangle surface lots: $15 anytime. Credit/debit payment only at the lot kiosks; the Park Smarter app may also be used.

ADA parking: Available in the South Plaza lot and the parking garage.

Drop-off/rideshare: Guests may be dropped off at the Union Station front entrance facing Pershing Road. Allow additional time for traffic and event activity.

There is no verified unrestricted free parking at Union Station. Free weekend lots at 601 and 711 Main are normally available for streetcar riders, except on KC Current home-game days. Because the Current has a home match on August 29, guests should not rely on those lots being free for this tour.

Always follow posted signs and current parking instructions. Parking prices and availability can change.

Important

Your ticket does not include parking, food, beverages, cannabis products, or personal purchases. Tour details are subject to reasonable adjustment for weather, streetcar operations, public events, safety, or conditions beyond the hosts' control.

Reserve your founding-guest seat and get ready to see Kansas City differently.
