Winter Stories + Sound Meditation
Join Charlie Gates for an offering of deep listening and daydreaming, traveling to liminal spaces through myth and sound meditation. Gathering to lean our ears to stories, poetry, and music has been used as supportive listening since humans have existed, supporting our imaginations, restful states, and communal connectivity. Together we explore gentle, somatic movement, listen to a retelling of an wintertime myth threaded by music, and move into a full sound bath.
Charlie Gates (they/them) is a queer sound maker, somatic movement guide, poet, and storyteller residing on the unceded land of the Lkwungen-speaking peoples, today known as Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations. Charlie has been a student of sound and music since an early age and has been offering meditative sound work since 2013.
Charlie comes from a professional background in music theatre, dance, and theatre-making. Today, their work in the world creates a weave between sound meditation, somatic and restorative practices, mythopoetics, and deep listening: offerings to create regenerative resting grounds that nourish the imagination and cultivate enchantment through sensorial experiences.
