The Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum is located on the grounds of Hopatcong State Park Our mission is to collect, house and preserve artifacts and documents relating to the civil, political, social and general history of Lake Hopatcong and to encourage the education and dissemination of information about Lake Hopatcong's history.
Description
Lake Hopatcong was once envisioned as a year-round resort. The lake was the long-time home of the Skate Sailing Association of America, a popular hockey league in River Styx, and one of the main ice boating venues in the northeast. In January 1926, the New York Times reported that a Winter Carnival held on Lake Hopatcong attracted a crowd of some 15,000 people to the lake.
