Description

The Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) will host a free public screening of the documentary Women in Blue on Saturday, Sept 13, 2025, in honor of National Police Woman Day.

Doors open at 1 pm and the screening starts at 1:30 pm, followed by a panel at 3:15 pm at Capri Theater, 2027 W Broadway, Minneapolis. The film follows several women officers, including current Golden Valley Assistant Police Chief Alice White, during a pivotal time in the Minneapolis Police Department, just prior to the murder of George Floyd.

Women in Blue premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was an official selection at the Minneapolis-St St Paul International Film Festival. It examines the intersection of gender, race, and policing through the eyes of the few women, and even fewer women of color, serving in law enforcement leadership roles.

The GVPD is actively addressing those same challenges and opportunities in real time. It has already met the national 30x30 Initiative goal of 30% female representation in police recruit classes five years ahead of the 2030 target. Of the department’s 38 members, 16 are women serving in a wide variety of roles, including patrol officers, sergeants, detectives, community service officers, and support staff.

The event is free and open to the public.
