CHECK IN BEGINS AT 8 AM, BOWLING BEGINS AT 9 AM

 

 

The SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHOOTOUTS are a series of individual events which also serve as qualifiers for the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GRAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

1. Tournament is open to all bowlers who are sanctioned USBC Youth bowlers or USBC Sanctioned bowlers under 22 years of age as of January 1, 2023 who are currently enrolled in college or accepted/enrolled at a college for the fall 2023 semester.

 

2. Participants may enter each event once. Entry fees will be as follows:

a. A Division $40

b. B Division $35

c. C and D Divisions $30

 

3. All competition will be scratch. Competition will be divided into four divisions:

a. A Division-185 and over

b. B Division- 160-184

c. C Division-135-159

d. D Division- Under 135

 

4. Entries will be taken up to the start of practice of each event. Once practice begins, bowlers arriving late or not present to bowl when it is their turn will be credited with a zero for that frame or frames missed.

 

5. Tournament format:

a. A Division – 5 games of qualifying, top-3 stepladder

b. B Division – 4 games of qualifying, top-3 stepladder

c. C and D Divisions – 3 games of qualifying, top-3 stepladder

Tournament format is subject to change depending on number of bowlers present

 

6. Tournament management has the right to reschedule lane assignments or times, including the number of bowlers per pair, at any time during the event. Reasons for rescheduling of lanes may include, but are not limited to, mechanical breakdowns, technical problems, and booking conflicts.

 

7. ENTERING AVERAGES: Bowlers will be placed in divisions based on their highest average in the past two years. Any and all averages will be considered including league averages, tournament club averages and book averages. Bowlers may “play up” and move to a higher division but cannot move to a division lower than their average dictates. Bowlers found to have entered under a falsified average are subject to disqualification and forfeiture of any earned tournament series points and scholarship funds.

 

8. Practice is prohibited on the tournament patterns in the hosting centers during the day of competition. Bowlers may practice on lanes that are not oiled with the tournament pattern if available.

 

9. No practice allowed for lanes that have been moved due to breakdowns.

 

10. This tournament uses one lane courtesy only. Pacers may be added to lanes by the tournament directors to aid in flow of play.

 

11. USBC RULE 18 will be in effect, however surface changes will be permitted BETWEEN GAMES only. All other aspects of Rule 18 will be in effect.

 

12. Scholarships will be paid on a 1:5 ratio minimum for this event. Scholarships will be held in the USBC SMART program. Scholarships will be reported to SMART within 30 days upon completion of the entire tournament series, except when USBC has authorized a delay, pending settlement of any claim or protest which affects position standings.

 

13. DISQUALIFICATIONS: Alcoholic beverages including non-alcoholic beer may NOT be consumed while participating in tournament. No tobacco or smoking products permitted by any bowler participating in scheduled events. Conduct derogatory to the best interest of youth bowling will result in immediate disqualification.

 

14. The Tournament Director shall be the authority to interpret tournament rules and local tournament rules, policies and procedures in deciding disputes. lf deemed necessary, the Tournament Director shall consult with the director of the California USBC.

 

15. Any protest or appeal concerning scoring must be made in writing stating the grounds of the protest or appeal and submitted to tournament committee with 72 hours after the infraction has occurred. The decision of the tournament committee is final and binding on all involved parties. Any violation of tournament rules is cause for disqualification, loss of entry fee, and forfeit of all prize monies, and possible suspension from future Summer Shootout and/or GrandChampionship events.

 

16. Any and all rules not covered in the above will revert to the USBC Rules of Bowling.

 

17. BOWLING ATTIRE: Dress code: Bowlers must wear slacks or dress shorts/skorts with a collared shirt or bowling jersey. Skirts/skorts must be of an acceptable length. No alcohol, tobacco, sexual or profane advertisements will be allowed on any attire or equipment. NOT ALLOWED: T-Shirts, clothing torn, ripped or with holes; fleece/lycra/spandex/legging type material, basketball/soccer nylon shorts or sweats. No head covering (hats, caps, or bandannas, etc.) or sunglasses once competition begins. NO HEADPHONES, AIRPODS, OR SIMILAR DURING COMPETITION. Tournament Management must approve any/all exceptions prior to competition.

 

18. Food and drink must be kept on counters behind the lanes and not in the bowler’s area. Spectators are not allowed in the bowlers area.
