Description
Coil & Cord Studio warmly welcomes visiting presenter Sassy Masochist as a special guest instructor to share her fantastic rope skills & rope teaching skills in New York City in November. Check out Sassy's other classes, too!
Description: Stop muscling your way through rope scenes and let physics do more of the heavy lifting! In this workshop, instructor Sassy Masochist will dive into the art of body mechanics, exploring how to use leverage, momentum, and gravity to move a tying partner smoothly through space with an economy of motion.
Sassy will lead participants in exploring the "Gravity Cycle", learning how to systematically work with instability and leverage to guide a partner’s body, both on the floor and with in (partial) suspension. Discover how simple body mechanics can transform your transitions into a seamless, effortless dance of gravity and connection.
Experience/Skills Needed: The person tying should: Be familiar with rope bondage safety basics. Be able to stand, squat, and sit on the floor. If you intend to participate hands-on in the suspension / partial suspension activity in the class: Know how to tie a suspension-ready chest harness (arms in or arms out), how to securely tie an upline to that chest harness and lock it off.
The person being tied should: Be familiar with rope bondage safety basics. Be able to stand, kneel, and sit on the floor. Have the ability to communicate their physical needs, limitations, and positions that are best for them. If you intend to participate hands-on in the suspension / partial suspension activity in the class: Prior experience with partial suspension or full suspension is helpful, though not required, as long as you maintain body awareness and communication.
Note: Attendees without suspension/upline experience are welcome to attend this workshop! Attendees without suspension/upline experience can fully participate in the non-upline hands-on activities in the workshop. During the suspension/uplines portions of the workshop, participants without suspension/upline experience can either do a modified (non-suspension) version of the activity, observe this portion of the workshop, or request that a teaching assistant tie the upline for them so that they can do the exercise.
What to Bring: at least enough rope to tie a suspendable chest harness + 1 upline, plus any suspension gear you use, and a cutting tool
Rope is also available for sale with class sign-up and at the venue.
Partnering: Hands-on participation in the workshop requires a tying partner, with one person tying and one person being tied. Solo attendees are welcome to partner up with another solo participant at the start of the workshop, but we cannot guarantee that solo attendees will be able to find a tying partner.
Instructors: Sassy Masochist (sassy_masochist) is a rope artist, community organizer, and educator who views bondage as a medium for connection and creative expression. Since beginning her journey over a decade ago, she has developed a style that emphasizes adaptive play and beautiful, intentional shapes while honoring the unique physical needs of the individual. Sassy has a passion for education and brings years of classroom and kink experience, supported by her Master’s in Education, to her local community and conventions across the country. She is also passionate about building inclusive community, and leads a Boston-based organization that hosts regular events for her local queer and kink community. A lifelong student at heart, Sassy is constantly seeking new ways to grow, create, and connect through rope.
Julie Julie is a rope switch who has been bottoming in rope for 5 years. In her play, Julie identifies as a masochist and sufferer who loves to connect with her tops through the physical and mental challenge of a tie. Julie loves teaching and is always excited to bring the bottoming perspective to rope education.
