Race Matters: Courageous Conversations for Leaders Workshop Unveils Essential Strategies for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Leaders seeking to navigate the challenging terrain of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) will find valuable insights and tools in the "Race Matters: Courageous Conversations for Leaders" workshop, available on June 3, 2024.

In a world where effectively addressing racism, recognizing biases, and creating an inclusive work environment are critical leadership skills, this one-day intensive workshop provides a safe and collaborative space for leaders eager to enhance their communication on these crucial topics. Designed for those who may feel paralyzed or unsure about discussing racism, the workshop tackles the complexities of diversity-related terminology and explores the intersections of DEIB.

Facilitated by Asila Calhoun and Mike Brown, recognized DEIB and Environmental Justice (EJ) experts, participants will:

  • Gain foundational awareness and a common language for growth as leaders.
  • Learn effective responses to comments contrary to organizational values.
  • Incorporate inclusive language to foster open dialogue and feedback.
  • Cultivate awareness and action to help leaders reach their full potential.
  • Develop meaningful questions to initiate race-related conversations with employees.
  • Hone listening skills as leaders and allies.

The program delves into allyship skills through scenario practice, encouraging participants to lean into vulnerability and discomfort within a supportive environment. Time is allocated for reflection, allowing attendees to craft action plans for ongoing learning and development.

"We believe that creating a workplace environment founded on respect, collaboration, positivity, and belonging is key to organizational success. This workshop equips leaders with essential tools to communicate effectively, identify challenges, expand partnerships, and improve relationships," said Liz Tarquin, CEO, CASE Consultants, who will host the event at The Collider in downtown Asheville.

The workshop will be held on June 3 from 9:00a to 4:30p.
